Head of Brand Safety and Quality leaves Twitter, as pressure on new CEO grows even before she steps into the role

Twitter's Head of Brand Safety and Ad Quality, A.J. Brown, has made the decision to leave the company, according to a source familiar with the matter. This departure comes shortly after another safety leader's resignation, posing a challenge for the incoming CEO, Linda Yaccarino.

Ella Irwin, the former Vice President of Product for Trust and Safety at Twitter, revealed to Reuters on Thursday that she had resigned from her position. Irwin was responsible for overseeing content moderation efforts and addressing user inquiries regarding suspended accounts.

Brown focused on initiatives aimed at preventing ads from appearing alongside inappropriate content. His departure was initially reported by Platformer and The Wall Street Journal.

Since Tesla CEO Elon Musk acquired Twitter in October, the platform has faced difficulties in retaining advertisers, who expressed concerns about ad placement following the company's layoffs of numerous employees.

Musk's appointment of Yaccarino, the former ad chief at Comcast's NBCUniversal, signaled Twitter's continued emphasis on ad sales, alongside efforts to expand subscription revenue.

Both Twitter and Brown have not yet responded to Reuters' requests for comment.
